What is home care?
Care at home allows you to remain living wherever you would like to be, for most people, this in their own home. Our services in home care can help take care of household chores, provide personal care, or in some cases, act as companionship visits. We provide you with custom-tailored home care services that allow you to remain at home rather than going to a residential care facility.
Home care can help you live the life you want
In addition to providing you with support at home, we also want to enable you to continue living the life you want to lead, to the very best. Our carers want to do everything to help support you in living an independent life and we can assist in getting you or a loved one to medical appointments, shopping trips, meeting up with friends or going for a cup of tea with the family.
You, and your loved ones, can be at peace and rest in the knowledge that Lifted is providing the best possible home care for you or your loved one.
How we can help
You can choose from a variety of domiciliary care solutions, from check-ins to personal care to 24-hour and live-in care. In addition to providing short-term help, our home care service can also be used to provide long-term care after an illness or to provide care when your usual caregiver is on leave. Lifted carers are able to help with:
Every home care service we provide is customized to your individual, specific needs. No two people are the same and therefore your home care needs should reflect that. You can count on us to help you or a loved one live in their own home, surrounded by precious memories and belongings, in comfort and safety.

What does a lifted carer do when they visit?
Our home care carers can perform anything from establishing daily contact with an elderly customer and preparing their lunch to providing round-the-clock care. As well as providing practical support, their job is to give emotional support with the goals of you or your loved one at the forefront. Our carers love to help the person they care for to live their best life in their own home.
It’s typical for home care workers to help their customers with one or more aspects of personal care. Whether this be helping them get washed and dressed every morning or taking care of their continence, or just washing their hair every now and then. However, this isn’t always necessary for someone who needs home care. Every single person we support has their own personalised and individual care plan, so we make sure we are providing exactly what’s needed. It depends on what the individual wishes to achieve from their support plan whether they just need assistance getting out and about, performing light household tasks, or watering plants…as some examples.
Carers offer practical assistance, but they are also friendly faces you can trust and get to know. As you watch your favorite TV program, they’ll be happy to share a cup of tea with yo and maybe a couple of custard creams! When your care needs make it necessary for you to need regular support while on holiday, we can even accompany you, wherever it is you plan to go. Not just on holidays either, for trips out, errands or a walk to the park, we’re there with you every step of the way if needed. You can count on our carers to not only travel with you, but to be there when you are there. It’s always reassuring to know that there will be someone to support you, whether you choose to go with your family or alone.

When looking for a carer, what do you look for?
Why is a good caregiver so important? When it comes to finding a caregiver for someone close to you, getting it right is vital. We look for a number of qualities in our Carers, but the two most important ones are for them to be empathetic and compassionate. You can have all the care experience in the world, but if a carer can’t be those two things, they won’t work for us.
That’s because we truly care about the people we care for and their families. We are extremely proud of the Lifted way and all our amazing carers. Our selection process is rigorous so only the very best (around 2% of applicants) become Lifted carers.
Compassion and empathy can’t be taught, but you can train a person who has never taken care of anyone before to become an exceptional Lifted carer. All of our carers go through a comprehensive assessment process before beginning to care for our customers, as well as rigorous background checks that include an intensive Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) screening. Some of the modules covered include manual handling, dementia, medication, health & safety, first aid, and safeguarding.
A carer’s initial training is followed by regular refresher courses, and they have the opportunity to specialize in particular areas of interest or take advanced courses. Such as specialist dementia care, for example.

Costs of Home care
Practical, emotional and personal support
Gives more control over the scheduling of care
It is suitable only for someone with low-level care needs.
The basic costs
To be honest, there isn’t a simple answer to how much each type of care will cost, with each person and circumstance differing.
While we would love to tell you exactly how much you could expect to pay each year, it’s impossible to say without knowing more about your set of circumstances. Such as where you live, how much care your loved one needs and so on.
What we will do though is take you through the basic costs of the five most popular options when caring for a loved one. In this first chapter, we will take you through the three types of care that take place in the home. These are caring for someone yourself, domiciliary care and live-in care.
Caring for someone yourself. How does it work?
Caring for someone yourself provides:
- Practical, emotional and personal support
- It gives more control over the scheduling of care
- It is suitable only for someone with low-level care needs.
When caring for your loved one, you take personal responsibility for their care needs.
This is commonly done in two ways. Firstly, you can visit them in their own home and provide care as when it suits. Secondly, you can invite them to love you and then care for them as and when they need it.
When visiting someone in their own home, it gives you the flexibility to offer just as much care as they require, when it suits you. Your loved one, meanwhile can stay in the comfortable surroundings of their own home and keep their existing support structure. In brief, this way means that neither of you needs to significantly change the way you live.
In the UK, many Carers and care recipients prefer this method, unsurprisingly, but it’s not always a viable option. After all, your loved one may require more care than you can provide and distance between properties could cause a stumbling block if you are not in the same area.
If this is the case, you may prefer to care for your loved one by moving them into your home. Meaning you are on hand to offer medical, emotional or physical support when they need it.
The cost of caring for someone yourself
If the person you are caring for lives on their own or in your home, space may need to be adapted to accommodate their changing needs.
This could include the need to budget for specialist equipment such as handrails (typically £100), easy-access shower facilities (£200 and upwards), stairlifts (£900 and upwards) to name but a few. Overall property accessibility may need improving such as ramps at a cost of around £50.
On top of these costs we also have to think about the smaller expenses such as household bills, petrol for the car, food shopping and more, it can all start to add up.
As it’s hard to estimate the total costs, we recommend getting into the habit of creating a plan.
These plans are useful ways to predict what you might have to spend in the next 3, 6 or 12 months and beyond. We advise that you overestimate every expense, to make sure you always fall within your budget.
